Understanding Arthritis: Symptoms, Causes, and Effective Management Strategies

Arthritis is a common condition characterized by the swelling and tenderness of one or more joints. The primary symptoms include joint pain and stiffness, often worsening with age. The most prevalent forms of arthritis are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

In rheumatoid arthritis (RA), symptoms such as morning stiffness, which can last for 30 minutes or more, may improve with a warm shower. RA is known for causing sensations like tingling or burning, indicating its widespread effects beyond just the joints. Movement can help alleviate pain and stiffness in arthritis, improving range of motion, muscle strength, and endurance. It’s crucial to engage in activities that strengthen muscles around the joints without causing joint damage.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disorder that can affect multiple body systems, including skin, eyes, lungs, heart, and blood vessels, beyond just the joints. Common symptoms include pain in affected joints during or after movement, stiffness upon awakening or after being inactive, tenderness when light pressure is applied, and loss of joint flexibility.

Arthritis primarily affects joints, involving inflammation or degeneration, leading to pain during joint use. It commonly occurs in the feet and other parts of the body. Symptoms like joint pain, stiffness, and swelling are more pronounced in the morning or after a period of inactivity.
